Students
Build your relationships with your students to understand and connect with them.
Techniques
Relationships
- take time to notice and talk to your students
- view your students in their other classes (time does not always allow this, but seeing them in their element during Foods class is a nice way for them to open up to you)
- what are their lives filled with? (work, relationships, family events, sports, etc.)
- clearly indicate your willingness to help
- apologize for anything you did wrong or unfairly
Surveys
- class survey at the beginning of the year
- Asking the three questions, "What should I start doing? What should I stop doing? What am I doing that you want me to keep doing in my class?"
Listen to parents
Find ways to connect and listen to parents through phone calls, emails, school events and parent teacher conferences. by focusing on their child and ask them questions such as "What can I do to help ...?" or "How does ... experience my class?"
